Many
of the web sites been developed today try to implement
the latest innovations been used on the Internet. While
on the face of it this may seem like a good approach,
it can also lead to many problems:
1. Users are frustrated at having to spend time downloading
software updates just so that they can look at your
web site.
2. Extra layers of technology add complexity to the
web site and thus increase the development and maintenance
costs.
As
a business you want your web site to provide the customer
with the information they are looking for as easily
and quickly as possible. Research on Internet users
browsing habits suggest that:
1. Ease of navigation is crucial i.e. the ability to
move from one section of the web site to another section
of the web site.
2. The time it takes to download web pages will influence
how long a user spends on the web site. This in turn
dictates how much of the web site they get to see.
3. Flashy web site graphics are of little importance
to users searching for information on products and services
(as oppose to those using the Internet for entertainment
purposes).
It
is for the reasons outlined above that we aim to produce
web sites that are intuitively easy to navigate, have
fast loading pages as well as a professional look.
